About AHAs and BHAs
AHAs and BHAs are chemical exfoliants and apart from getting rid of dead skin cells, they also have hydrating properties, improve skin texture and tons of other benefits.
Unlike AHAs, BHAs are oil-soluble and they work on the skin surface as well as deep into the pores. This is why they’re the best fit for acne-prone, normal to oily skin types and other related concerns.

About COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid
The blackhead power liquid is a BHA exfoliant and often listed as one of the best BHA exfoliants. It claims to “deeply cleanse and remove oil” whilst also “moisturizing the skin and minimizing pore appearance“.
It has a lot of great reviews and I really wanted to test the claims. I also wanted to introduce a chemical exfoliant into my routine and it was a great fit for my skin concerns.
It comes in a 100ml size at a price range of $18 – $24. Seems like a pretty decent price, right? Furthermore, it can last for months, depending on usage (been using mine since September and I’m barely anywhere near half).

It has two key ingredients; 4% Betaine salicylate and 67.8% Salix alba (willow) bark water.
The willow bark extract contains natural salicylic acid (salicin), known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It gently exfoliates, helps with minimizing pore appearance and several other benefits.
Betaine salicylate is basically a mixture of salicylic acid and betaine. It’s a humectant with mildly exfoliating, hydrating, anti-aging and anti-irritant properties. It also helps to clear out pores and reduce occurrence of blackheads.
Other star ingredients include niacinamide, pathenol and butylene glycol. Sodium hyaluronate, ethyl haxanediol and 1,2-hexanediol also have hydrating properties.
The ingredient list is pretty impressive and to top it all, the product is also vegan, cruelty and paraben-free⭐!

How to Use
I was actually quite skeptical about chemical exfoliants. People frequently share their “skin purging” experiences and I didn’t want to go through that. Eventually, I decided to test it out by slowly adding it to my routine. It worked out for me and I think this is a great way to start out with any exfoliant.
—> This guide contains a detailed summary of how to incorporate it (and any other exfoliant) into your routine.

First Thoughts & Impressions
The packaging was minimal and it comes in a thick glass bottle which feels really sleek. It’s a colorless liquid with a water-like texture and an extremely nice smell. I can’t quite describe it but it smells faintly like bubble gum. It also feels smooth when rubbing it across the skin but leaves a sticky feeling on the hands afterwards.
I absolutely love this product and it works as just as claimed! I haven’t spotted blackheads in a while and the pores around my nose and cheeks seem to look smaller. Also, my face feels more smooth with better texture.
There were days I noticed redness around certain areas and I think it may have helped to calm them. I really do not need to say more but this product gets great reviews for valid reasons.
It leaves a sticky feeling on the fingers after application and this annoys me a little bit. Sometimes, I also feel a sharp tingle but it disappears quite quickly.
Will I recommend? Absolutely! There’s barely anything to complain about and I love that it works effectively.
Will I repurchase? Unless I plan to try other products, I’d most likely repurchase after my current bottle runs out.
I’m quite glad I got off to a good start in chemical exfoliation and this product has reduced my fears of incorporating more chemicals into my routine.
